i personally say leave the DX and STD (standard base model) alone. you want performance then you should get a Si wink...a lil more hp and a hella better geared tranny. there is also the difference of DX & STD are 1.5 and the Si is 1.6 (not a huge difference but, should be noted).

next it's hard to compare a hatch to a CRX. the CRX is lighter. it's better to say DX hatch vs. STD hatch or the same thing for the REX.

    just my 2 cents

On the CRX...the base is actually the HF model. It's alot lighter, but don't bother with it...axles, brakes, reinforcing, sway abrs, everything's different...alot of upgrading to go performance anything.

Get the Si Models 89 and up. They already come with Sway Bars, MPFI wiring to make it easier to swap in newer engines, etc. Plus more options and a sunroof, and embroidery on doors, and cool stuff like a clock and tach. Being that an Si would only be maybe $500 more than a DX nowadays, it's totally worth your while.

My wife's 'Base model' can't get out of it's own way smile it might be related to a weak clutch...but i'm sure that's not the only reason smile

Would anyone happen to know the difference b/t the dx and the base civic. Is it all in the exhaust or did they screw with the cam too? I'm just lookin for some more power, I'm puttin new exaust in over the summer I got the muff ordered today. I just figured I'd ask about the cam cuz I have to put clutch in anyway. And my "base model" gets out of it's own way fine, just not w/the a/c on.

The difference between the DX and the STD is the cam, so you could gain about 22 horsepower just by swaping in a DX cam.
